Getting ready for your US immigration medical
We are not a US panel physician, so your official exam happens elsewhere. Before it, Dr. Paul Yonga, Consultant Infectiologist, reviews your vaccination records and gives the vaccines you are missing, each written down with its date.
Who does the official US medical
CA Medlynks and Dr. Paul Yonga are not US panel physicians or USCIS civil surgeons. We cannot do your DS-7794 or I-693 exam, and an exam done here would not be accepted. You would have to repeat it.
| Your situation | Form | Who examines you |
|---|---|---|
| Immigrant visa (green card) interview at the US Embassy in Nairobi | DS-7794 (or DS-2054), with the DS-3025 vaccination worksheet | A panel physician appointed by the US Embassy |
| Already in the US, applying to adjust status | I-693 | A civil surgeon designated by USCIS, inside the US |
| Student (F-1), visitor or work visa | No State Department medical in most cases | Your university or employer may ask for its own health form |
For immigrant visas, the Embassy's Nairobi instructions list the IOM Migration Health Assessment Centre in Gigiri. Check the current list yourself on the US Department of State Nairobi page before you book. Results from other doctors are not accepted.
For non-immigrant visas, US rules require a medical only for K visas, travel for medical treatment, or when the consular officer has a medical concern (22 CFR 41.108).
Why your vaccination record matters
The US immigrant exam checks your vaccines against a list of 15 diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, rotavirus, Hib, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningococcal disease, varicella, pneumococcal disease and influenza. Which of these apply to you depends on your age.
CDC tells panel physicians to count a dose only if a written record shows the day, month and year it was given. A dose you remember but cannot show on paper does not count. IOM's sheet for US-bound applicants in Nairobi says that if you come without your records, you will be treated as not immunised and given the recommended vaccines there.
This is where we help. Dr. Yonga goes through the cards and certificates you have, tells you what looks missing, and gives the vaccines you choose to get before your exam. Every dose goes on a written record with the full date, which you take to the panel physician. The panel physician still decides what you need.

Vaccine prices are the same as on our travel medicine page. Some vaccines need more than one dose, and the doses must be spaced weeks apart, so start early. Tell us which vaccines you want before your visit and we'll confirm they are available.
The blood tests here do not replace the tests in the official exam. The panel physician runs the tests the exam requires. Some people choose to check their TB or other results early so nothing comes as a surprise.

US immigration medical: questions people ask us
Can CA Medlynks do my US immigration medical (DS-7794 or I-693)?
No. In Kenya, only a panel physician appointed by the US Embassy can do the immigrant visa exam, and Form I-693 is completed by a USCIS civil surgeon inside the US. An exam done at CA Medlynks would not be accepted and you would have to repeat it.
Will the panel physician count vaccines I get at CA Medlynks?
CDC tells panel physicians to accept written records that show the day, month and year of each dose. We give you that record for every dose. The panel physician makes the final decision on what else you need.
What happens if I go to the exam without vaccination records?
IOM's information sheet for US-bound applicants in Nairobi says you will be treated as not immunised and given the recommended vaccines for your age.
Do I need a medical exam for a US student (F-1) visa?
Usually not for the visa itself. US rules require a medical for non-immigrant visas only for K visas, travel for medical treatment, or when the consular officer asks. Many universities have their own health form with TB screening and vaccine questions. Bring it to your consultation.
Can I do the exam blood tests here to save time?
No. The panel physician runs the tests the exam requires, and results from other clinics are not used in place of them. A test here only tells you your own result earlier.
